Premium China Funds Management (Premium), established in 2005, is a boutique funds management group providing specialist Asian equity and emerging market fixed-income funds to Australian and New Zealand investors.


Simon Wu (Executive Chairman | Chief Investment Strategist)

Simon is a seasoned veteran with over 25 years experience in the funds management and finance industries. Having worked at BT Funds Management as an investment manager in the 1980's, Simon then moved to establish an accounting and management consulting firm, and subsequently a financial planning practice.

He is the founding chairman of Premium Wealth Management (a boutique dealer group which consists of 24 firms on the east coast of Australia with over AUD2 billion in assets under management). Simon has been publishing articles on tax, accounting, finance and investment for the past 20 years in many Chinese newspapers and magazines.

He also hosts his own Chinese talk-back radio show discussing finance and investment matters for 17 years.


Dean Groundwater (Director)

Dean has a wide range of expertise  in many areas of finance, including commercial law and compliance.

Dean has held positions at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Sydney in their business services, taxation and insolvency divisions (1988-1994). After that, he was the assistant to the Company Secretary at Bank of American in Sydney, where he gained experience in secretariat as well as compliance work for a large enterprise (1995). In late 1995, he joined Warren McKeon Dickson, where he was admitted as a partner in 1996.

Dean brings his wealth of expertise in providing legal advice to companies and businesses, contract law, commercial leasing, banking and finance transactions as well as practice management, expansion and acquisitions.


Jonathan Wu (Executive Director | Head of Distribution & Operations)

Jonathan is the Executive Director and Head of Distribution and Operations at Premium China Funds Management.  Jonathan holds a Bachelors of Commerce from the University of Sydney, majoring in accounting and commercial law, a Diploma of Financial Services in Financial Planning as well as being a Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) with financial planning specialist designations (FPS). He has completed the Global Executive MBA at the University of Sydney (Voted No. 1 EMBA in Australia for 2013 by AFR/Boss Magazine). He is also an Associate Chartered Financial Practitioner with the Association of Financial Advisers. Before joining Premium China Funds Management, he was a trainee analyst at Global Value Investors, doing international equity models as well as analysis. He was also previously a research assistant for Investors Mutual Limited, looking after their investment research database. Jonathan also holds an Associate Financial Planner status with the Financial Planning

Association of Australia.

Jonathan has just released the fourth edition of his first book "Asia: The New Investment Paradigm", which explores Asia as an investment destination.

yaoty2013Jonathan was named the 2013 Young Achiever of the Year by Money Management to acknowledge his passion for, and accomplishments within the industry over the last decade. Jonathan also won the 2011 BDM of the Year award by Money Management/Lonsec (NSW/ACT) in recognition of his outstanding service and value added to financial planners and researchers alike in the region and country. He currently looks after 100 dealer groups across Australia covering both small dealers to large institutional clients.


Paul Harding-Davis 
Chief Executive Officer

B.Bus, Adv Dip (Financial Services), ASFA AIF, FAICD

phdPaul as CEO heads the business and strategic development of the group. He has over 38 years of broad experience in the financial services industry, including senior roles as:

- Head of Distribution, Australian Ethical Investment and Superannuation
- General Manager, Glebe Asset Management
- Head of Sales, Absolute Capital Limited and
- A number of institutional and retail roles with Zurich Financial Services Australia.

Most recently, Paul was the General Manager Advice for Australian Unity Personal Financial Services and CEO of Premium Wealth Management Ltd, responsible for both financial advice networks.

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Company Directors, and has a B. Bus; Adv Dip. Financial Services (Financial Planning); and AIF ASFA. He is married with four now young men, and loves sport, having once played in the NBL, but now spends more time watching rugby and NFL. 


Derek Paas (Asia Investment Specialist)
State Manager: New South Wales (NSW), Queensland (QLD) and Australian Capital Territory (ACT)

B. Ec. (Macquarie), Grad.Dip.Fin.

Derek has almost 20 years of experience in financial markets and funds management. He was previously a financial advisor at CBA and Macquarie Bank. Prior to joining Premium, he worked for several UK-based fund managers. These included Franklin Templeton and Standard life Investments where he held the position of Senior Investment Specialist with a focus on their Asian fund offerings.

In addition to a Bachelor of Economics degree from Macquarie University, he also holds a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment from the Securities Institute.



Clayton Coplestone - Investment Specialist (New Zealand)

B. Bus.(Finance), Dip. Bus.(Personal Financial Planning)

Clayton has been working in the Financial Services industry since 1984, with a background in share broking, money markets, financial planning and asset management. Clayton held posts such as Australasian Sales and Marketing Manager with a boutique asset management firm based in Sydney, as well as head of Asia Asset Management's retail business division for Credit Suisse in Australia and Hong Kong. At Credit Suisse, he completed projects such as establishing China's first Asset Management joint venture with China's largest bank and similar project for the bank's Korea branch.

Clayton recently returned to Auckland, where he has set-up Heathcote Investment Partners – a third party distributor of boutique investment services to Australasian family offices, institutions and financial advisers. He has a Bachelor of Business Studies (major in Finance) and Diploma in Business Studies (Personal Financial Planning).


Kevin Hu (Manager, Operations and Relationships)

B.Com.(UNSW)(Accounting and Finance)

Kevin holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of New South Wales, majoring in Finance and Accounting.

He is responsible for day to day business operations, research reviews and relationships, platform relationships, project management, investor communication, data management, business development support, marketing and events.
